Yellow Cab receives award from the Texas State
Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services

AUSTIN, TX (June 27, 2008) – – Yellow Cab has been honored as a “Business of the Year” by the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) for hiring a very significant  number of employees who are blind or visually impaired in Central Texas. The award, presented on June 27, 2008, also recognizes Yellow Cab for the company’s contributions to promote workplace diversity and accessibility.

General Manager Ed Kargbo accepted the award on behalf of Yellow Cab. “Yellow Cab hired the company’s first visually impaired call taker in 2004.” said Mr. Kargbo.  “Thanks to adaptive technology and guidance from the Texas State Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, the company now routinely employs qualified call takers who are visually impaired.”

“Considering the size of Sears, our fellow award recipient, relative to our own small, locally owned company, this is quite an achievement,” noted Mr. Kargbo, who brought a group of communications employees to the awards presentation, held at he Doubletree Hotel. Among the employees in attendance were three who are visually impaired.

DARS is a state agency whose mission is to ensure that Texas is a state where people with disabilities enjoy the same employment opportunities as other Texans. The DARS Division for Blind Services develops and administers programs that help Texas who are blind or visually impaired become fully independent members of their communities.
