Stepping into the Land Yacht, Austin’s alternative taxi, you’re immediately bombarded by glowing black and neon lights, the booming sound system and the four screens staring back at you. You can’t help but mutter, “Cool.” Scott Powell, the face behind the Yacht, has been getting this reaction for years now. A self-described “geek,” he takes pleasure in offering his customers a multimedia cab experience complete with cartoons, music videos, stand-up comedy shows and, of course, karaoke. New Yorker columnist Hendrik Hertzberg called it “the best cab ride I’ve ever had.”
