City of Austin Taxi Fare Information

The City of Austin regulates taxicab rates. These rates apply to all taxicab companies and all drivers. The current meter rate is $2.50 for the first 1/6 mile plus $0.40 for each additional 1/6 mile. Waiting time is $29.00 per hour.

By city ordinance, there is a minimum price for trips that orginate from Austin Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA). It is set at the value of a 4 mile trip (currently $13.10). Also per city ordinance, trips which originate at the airport are subject to a $1 surcharge. There is no additional charge for extra passengers. As many as four passengers may ride for the price of one passenger.

Yellow Cab Austin Flat Rates

Flat Rates are based on mileage from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to anywhere in the city indicated. These are suggested rates. If you are departing from elsewhere in Austin, you are free to make appropriate adjustments, and you may always negotiate a lower fare with your passenger. When accepting an out-of-town trip, there are some rules that must be adhered to:

	GET YOUR MONEY IN ADVANCE.

	Inform the dispatcher that you are doing a flat-rate, out-of-town-trip.

	No stops.

	No going to another location to pick up another passenger. If you must pick up an additional passenger, collect the meter fare when the second passenger is loaded. The flat rate begins at that point.

	1 pickup within the Austin city limits and 1 stop inside the limits of the destination city. If the trip takes you through the entire city that you are going to and you are now exiting the city limits, then the flat rate has been completed and the passenger will owe you additional money to their destination.
